Black Peat Moss
Black peat moss is harvested from the deeper layers of a peat bog. It is dark brown to black in colour, with a fine, dense, and heavier texture. It is moderately to highly
decomposed.
Additional information
This type has a high water-holding capacity but less aeration compared to white peat. It also has a low pH (~3.5–4.5) and is clean and free of weeds and diseases. Black peat moss is great for substrate mixes where moisture retention is more important than aeration and is best used for seedling mixes. It is available in screening sizes of 0–6, 0 20, and 6–20 fractions. Packaging options include 50L, 70L, and 250L bags.
